Terms of Service

DRAFT — pending attorney review. This document describes how Grandkins actually works today.
The service
Grandkins provides live-translated family video calls and a private
family archive. The parent account owner controls the family: members,
languages, billing, and deletion.
Your account
- You must be an adult to create a family account. Grandparents and other
relatives join calls through invitation links without accounts.
- Adding a child under 13 requires your fresh password confirmation and
explicit parental consent (COPPA). You are responsible for having the
authority to give that consent.
- Keep your password safe — it also guards billing, child consent, and
account deletion.
Calls, memories, and the archive
- Calls are not continuously recorded. Calls are transcribed, and
short video "moments" are kept only when a family member chooses to save
one — and both happen only after every participant has been shown a
consent notice in their own language and accepted it. A participant
without consent pauses all of it automatically.
- Transcripts, saved moments, and voice/text messages are stored in your
family's private archive, visible only to your family account.
- Spoken translation uses neutral synthetic voices. We do not clone
anyone's voice and do not create voiceprints.
Billing
- New families get a free trial. After it ends, starting new calls
requires a subscription (via Stripe).
- Your archive is never locked — everything already saved stays
accessible even if your trial or subscription ends.
Ending things
- Nothing auto-deletes. You can delete the entire family account in
Settings (typed confirmation + password); after a 7-day grace period all
data — saved moments, transcripts, messages, everything — is permanently
erased.
- We may suspend accounts that abuse the service or the law.
